Make sure to join the “Drawn by Camrose” artists on
Friday, October 3rd from 5:00-7:00pm for a Meet & Greet!
The Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre is thrilled to unveil its newest visual art display, a captivating exhibition titled “Drawn By Camrose.” Curated by the esteemed Jane Cherry, this collection features stunning pen and ink renditions of various cherished spots around our city, offering a fresh perspective on the places we know and love.
As Jane Cherry shares, “I am thrilled to be able to share these pen and ink renditions of various areas in Camrose. Many will know the local artists who have created them and many will know the places that have been captured.”
This display is a tribute to our city’s beauty, captured through the unique vision of four exceptional artists. We invite you to explore their work and learn more about the creative minds behind the ink. The exhibit will be on display in our lobby until October 2nd, and is open to the public Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:30 PM.
Meet the Artists
Keith Harder
A well-known figure in the Camrose art community, Keith Harder has been a central force in the local art scene for decades. After a 33-year career as a Professor of Studio Art at the Augustana Campus of the University of Alberta, Keith is now dedicated to his own studio practice. His work, rooted in painting, has evolved to include drawing, digital imaging, sculpture, and land art installations. His contributions to the art world are widely recognized, with his work proudly represented by the Loch Galleries in Calgary, Toronto, and Winnipeg.
Jayda Calon
Born and raised just outside of Camrose, Jayda Calon’s work is deeply connected to the natural world. Jayda brings her love for drawing en plein air—the act of drawing outside in the landscape—to this collection. A Bachelor of Fine Arts graduate from the University of Alberta, her art explores how time and change shape the balance between preservation and decay. As the Recreational Program Coordinator and an Art Instructor at the Chuck Maclean Arts Centre, Jayda helps foster creativity in the next generation of Camrose artists.
Kim Fletcher
Kim Fletcher’s artistry is a beautiful extension of her compassionate spirit. Kim has long used her creativity in various forms, including murals and drawings, but her most personal work is in Areola Artistry, a form of restorative medical tattooing. For this exhibit, Kim has focused on Camrose’s bridges, seeing them as powerful symbols of connection, resilience, and unity. Her work perfectly blends her love of place with her belief that art has the power to heal.
Leanne Shapka
Leanne Shapka, also known as L. Spendelow Art, was inspired by her upbringing on a Saskatchewan ranch to create art from a young age. With a diverse educational background that includes fine arts, psychology, and education, Leanne sees art as a means to engage perceptions and elicit emotions. As a high school fine art teacher, she is passionate about the evolution of the art world and looks forward to what the future holds for both her students and her own impressionistic work. Leanne’s painting “Moody Marsh” was showcased at a provincial level and is even featured in an online gallery at the Dali in St. Petersburg, Florida.
We encourage you to come and explore these incredible works and celebrate the talent that exists right here in our community.
