A Murder of Art: Unveiling the Ravens & Crows Visual Arts Display at the Lougheed Centre

·

Step into the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre and prepare to be captivated by our latest visual arts display: “Ravens & Crows.” This compelling exhibition brings together the unique perspectives of nine talented artists, each offering their own interpretation of these enigmatic and intelligent birds.

As curator Jane Cherry explains, “After receiving a beautiful painting of a raven when I retired and knowing that everybody seems to have a different view on ravens and crows, I thought it would be interesting to invite a variety of artists to depict ravens and crows from their own perspective. Nine female artists accepted my invitation and they did not disappoint! Each and every one of them depicts these birds with reverence and thoughtfulness. Many of them researched prior to creating and learned how smart they are, how revered they have been, and what a great presence and character each possess. It is very interesting to see the beautiful variation of artistic style and interpretation!”

This thought-provoking collection showcases the diverse artistic styles and deep understanding each artist developed for their subject. From bold interpretations to subtle nuances, you’ll discover the rich symbolism and fascinating characteristics of ravens and crows through a fresh lens.
