Come and experience opera in a new and exciting way!
When you see the words “comic book” what would be the first thing that pops into you head? Superman? Batman? Maybe you think of Charlie Brown and Snoopy. When you see the word “opera” what would you immediately picture? A large woman with pigtails and a horned helmet? Maybe you think of The Three Tenors or just The Tenors. But what pops into your head when you see those two things combined? How would a comic book and an opera fit together?
This June, come see a ground-breaking presentation of Cendrillon, a French opera telling the familiar story of Cinderella. Douglas Graham, a recent Juno Award Winner, and his team of artists have spent the past year combining Massenet’s music with Douglas’ performance knowledge to take the typical opera presentation and recreate it on the page. All of the grand operatic moments, beautiful costumes and sets, choreography, etc. repackaged and enhanced for your viewing pleasure.
Together, with an all-Canadian cast of singers and orchestra, Comic (book) Opera presents: Cendrillon will show the world a new way to interpret opera. A way to bring opera to anywhere in the world and performed for everyone, everywhere.
If you’re a fan of opera, you won’t want to miss this. If you’ve always been opera-curious, no better time to scratch that itch. If opera has never been on your radar, take pride in being one of the first to experience new opera at its finest.
Tickets on sale now for the two nights in Camrose, June 20 and 21 at 7:30pm in the magnificent Cargill Theatre at the Jeanne & Peter Lougheed Performing Arts Centre.
Don’t let the midnight bell ring! Get your tickets for this reimagined opera today!
