A Special Collection Of Reimagined Classics Celebrating The Songs, Artists and Musical Influences That Have Shaped His Journey

Over an illustrious career spanning three decades, JUNO Award winning singer-songwriter Johnny Reid has captured the hearts of fans and audiences around the world. The critically acclaimed singer is widely known for his lyrical honesty and musical ability, as demonstrated by an extensive catalogue of hit songs, album sales totalling over 2 million units worldwide, countless awards and multiple sold-out national arena tours.
After months of sharing beloved songs, personal stories and musical influences exclusively on YouTube, award-winning Canadian artist Johnny Reid is taking In Retrospect from the studio to the stage with the announcement of the In Retrospect Tour, alongside the release of his new album of the same name, arriving November 13.
The intimate theatre tour will bring Reid’s In Retrospect project to audiences across Western Canada beginning February 19 in Vernon, BC, with stops in Kelowna, Trail, Cranbrook, Fort Saskatchewan, Camrose, Lloydminster, Red Deer, Prince Albert, North Battleford and Brandon.
But In Retrospect is about more than simply looking back.
The album is a collection of songs that have played a meaningful role in Reid’s musical journey, revisiting timeless classics through his own lens and introducing them to listeners in a deeply personal way. Produced by Grammy Award-winner Brent Maher and recorded alongside world class musicians at Soultrain Sound Studios in Nashville, the 16-track collection features songs made famous by artists including The Drifters, Creedence Clearwater Revival, The Animals, Elvis Presley, Van Morrison, Bob Dylan, Marvin Gaye, Tom Jones, and more.
And while In Retrospect will be at the heart of the tour, audiences can expect the live experience to reach beyond the new record, with Reid bringing a few songs from throughout his career to the stage alongside these newly recorded tracks. Audiences can look forward to a mix of In Retrospect songs, and a handful of Johnny Reid favourites across two sets.
What began as a series of musical explorations shared online was never intended to become an album – much less a tour. But the response changed everything.
“When I began working on In Retrospect, it wasn’t intended to be an album… and it certainly was never supposed to be a tour,” says Reid. “It was simply a chance for me to look back, revisit some old songs and share little pieces of my musical journey and influences with you.
But then something magical happened. You (the fans) responded.
The messages, the stories, the memories, the moments and the incredible outpouring of love for these songs have meant more to me than I could ever properly put into words. You spoke and, as always, I listened.
So, we’re taking In Retrospect on the road and bringing these songs to a few select theatres. I cannot wait to stand on stage, look out and sing these songs to you and with you. What started as a look back has somehow become a chance to look forward.”
The In Retrospect album features Reid’s interpretations of Under the Boardwalk, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, House of the Rising Sun, Always On My Mind, Into the Mystic, Sundown, If You Don’t Know Me By Now featuring Katie Kadan, I Heard It Through the Grapevine, Green Green Grass of Home featuring Natalie MacMaster, Me and Bobby McGee, I Can’t Help Falling in Love With You featuring Ava Reid, Sitting on the Dock of the Bay, Lady in Red, Tulsa Time, A Whiter Shade of Pale and The Rose.
The project will continue to unfold throughout the fall, with a series of music videos and track-by-track pieces giving fans an intimate look into the songs and stories behind In Retrospect.
The In Retrospect album will be available November 13, with physical pre-orders beginning September 28 at johnnyreid.com. The album will also be available for purchase at upcoming Johnny Reid performances, with additional retail availability to be announced.
